Dog Licenses:

All dogs, 5 months of age or older, are required to be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. The license year runs January 1 through December 31.  The license fee is $5 for each neutered male or spayed female, and $10 for each unneutered male or unspayed female. Send a copy of your dog’s current rabies shot record to the Barron County Treasurer along with the appropriate license fee.  Do not send Veterinary bills as they do not include the date and series number of the rabies shots.

To get your tag(s) returned to you, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.

Limitation on Number of Dogs:

No family shall own, harbor or keep in its possession more than three dogs on any residentially zoned lot or other building site without the prior approval of the Town Board, except for a litter of pups or a portion of the litter, which may be kept for not more than twelve weeks from birth.  If more than one family resides on a residential lot or another building site, only three dogs shall be allowed unless prior approval is obtained from the Town Board.

The above requirement will be waived if a kennel license has been granted by the Town Board. Application for the waiver shall first be made to the Town Clerk.  If a kennel license is approved by the Town Board, the cost of the license is $35 (for up to 12 dogs) plus $5 for each additional dog.  Current rabies shot records are required for all dogs over 5 months of age, before issuance of the kennel license tags.  Kennel tags are issued by the Barron County Treasurer and can be picked up either at the Barron County Treasurer’s office, or at the monthly Town meeting by making prior arrangements with the Town Clerk, Lois Hoff.  Lois can be reached at 715-357-6016.
